Astrid Northman was Eric's mother; she was seen in one of his flashbacks during season three. She was the queen of Öland at some point during the 9th century. She was married to Ulfrik Northman with whom she had at least two children. She was killed along with her baby daughter by a pack of werewolf's under Russell Edgington's command. Eric vowed to avenge his families' murder.
