Caroline Bellefleur was the oldest living member of the Bellefleur family on the HBO original series True Blood. Played by American guest starring actress Katherine Helmond in the series' fourth season, and by American guest starring actress Helen Slayton-Hughes in the series' sixth season, Caroline makes her debut on the episode "I'm Alive and on Fire" in the series' fourth season. The grandmother of Terry, Andy and Portia Bellefleur, Caroline returns on the episode "Dead Meat", in the series' sixth season, and was last seen on the subsequent episode, "Life Matters", in the same season.

Personality[]

At first Caroline seems very timid and family oriented. As it turns out she is very controlling, uptight and old fashioned. She prides herself in her family and her knowledge of her long family tree. She seems to put up the front that she is still wealthy although the Bellefleur family has lost their large wealth some time ago. She seems at first that she does not mind vampires as she allows Bill Compton to date her granddaughter until she realizes that the vampire is a part of her family tree and then asks him to not continue the relationship which Bill obliges.

She's somewhat prone to using rudeness. During her grandson Terry's funeral, she has no problem with speaking loudly and rudely about many people present including Sookie, Lafayette and "Big John" Dickson.

Biography[]

Background[]

Caroline is the matriarch of the Bellefleur family and lives in the Bellefleur mansion. Her husband, along with most of her family have died, however she is very connected to her family heritage, to the point of being able to recount her family tree back several generations. She is also close with her grandchildren. Her Granddaughter-in-law, Arlene, describes her as a "lush", which seems to be a trait she has passed on to her grandson Andy who is an alcoholic. Arlene has also mentioned that the wealth of the Bellefleurs is crumbling, Andy has said something similar, mentioning that at one point Caroline's husband owned most of Bon Temps.

Season 4[]

"I'm Alive and on Fire"[]

Bill Compton accompanies Portia to visit her grandmother. Caroline eagerly discusses her family history with Bill, asking about how well he knew her ancestors. They suddenly, both realize to their shock that Bill and Portia are actually distantly related due to his daughter Sarah Compton having a child with one of the Bellefleurs. Portia is oblivious to this and Caroline insists that Bill leave immediately to which he complies. ("I'm Alive and on Fire")

Season 6[]

"Dead Meat"[]

After Terry is killed, Caroline, Andy, Portia and Arlene prepare to make funeral arrangements but Caroline and Arlene come into conflict when Caroline announces that Terry's funeral will include a gun salute, as per the Bellefleur family tradition. Arlene thinks this is ridiculous as Terry was killed by a gun and she leaves the room. ("Dead Meat")

"Life Matters"[]

Caroline is later seen in the front row at Terry's funeral with Arlene, Portia, Andy, Coby, Lisa and Adilyn and seems to insult many of the guests. She asks Portia if Lafayette is a boy or a girl before commenting that there were a surprising number of negroes at the service. An embarrassed Portia tells her to be quiet. ("Life Matters")
