TruBeverage.com was one of seventeen official companion websites that were created to complement the content found on the HBO original series True Blood.
Premise[]
The site allowed you to buy actual bottles of the Tru Blood beverage that was created as a promotion to complement the series. Later versions contained news articles which contained content relevant to the beverage. It's description read: "The official site to buy Tru Blood Beverage. Enliven yourself with this uniquely carbonated, slightly tart, lightly sweet blood orange drink."
Version 1: 2008 - 2013[]
The first version of the site allowed users to purchase 4-pack bottles of the drink Tru Blood. Bottles were exact recreations of the bottles used onscreen.
- This version features news articles from 2009 - 2011, although scripting problems generally left articles unreadable by the viewer.
- The "Buy Now" and "Shop" link buttons took you to pages on parent company HBO's official online store.
Version 1: Accessing[]
The original version of the site required users to "Please enter the date you were turned". There were three fields below, "Month", "Day", and "Century" that the user must fill in in order to access the site. A way of obtaining basic demographics on HBO's end, once the birthday was entered, the user could optionally click on a checkbox instructing the site to "Remember Me". The data was saved in the local user's cookie files and the information was no longer required to entered upon re-entry into the site. After all information was completed, the user was required to press the "ENTER" button thus allowing them access into the site. This requirement was removed by the time Version 2 was created.
Version 2: 2013 - 2014[]
The second version of the site was developed right after the attack on the Tru Blood manufacturing plant's parent company, the Yakonomo Corporation. When the plant was attacked in 2011, it lost the capability of producing the beverage, and thus no more could be offered. No more Tru Blood was sold after.
- The second version features news articles from 2009 - 2011, scripting problems were repaired by utilizing standard HTML, and all articles are now accessible.
- The "Buy Now" link button is gone. The "Shop" link buttons still took you to a page on parent company HBO's official online store, although Tru Blood was no longer listed in their inventory.
News Archives[]
