Luke Grimes, born January 21, 1984 in Dayton, Ohio, is an American actor who plays the role of James Kent on the HBO original series True Blood. Making his debut on the episode "The Sun", in the series' sixth season, Luke plays the role of a vampire captured in Burrell's Camp. Playing a recurring role through the same season, Luke was the love interest of Jessica Hamby, and was last seen on the episode "Radioactive", at the end of the series' sixth season. The role of James was recast, and Luke was replaced by Nathan Parsons, an American actor who plays the role of James Kent throughout the series' seventh, and final, season.
Luke Grimes born on January 21, 1984 in Dayton, Ohio grew up in a devoutly religious family where his father is a Pentecostal minister; he learned to play the drums in church. He attended The American Academy of Dramatic Arts, New York, NY for college in 2004.
One of first auditions in Hollywood was for the title role in the 2005 CBS biopic Elvis, which ultimately went to Jonathan Rhys Meyers. In 2007, started playing drums for the rock band Mitchells Folly, who released their debut album, Whirlwind, in 2008.
At the 2008 Breckenridge Festival of Film, shared a Best Supporting Actor Award with costar Dan McCabe for War Eagle, Arkansas.
His competition for the buzzed-about role of Ryan Lafferty on ABC's Brothers & Sisters included actors Jason Ritter and Scott Porter. According to his publicist, Luke left the role of James, who is now set to be recast. However, sources in and close to HBO all confirm that Grimes left because of the homosexual relationship James has with Lafayette in the final season. He objected to any same-sex kissing, intimacy, or even any homosexual attraction in his character, and demanded that to do the role the attraction would have to be only on Lafayette's end and not acted upon. Alan Ball, being openly gay, refused to Grimes's demands. Grimes subsequently faulted on his out clause and left the show.
