Michael McMillian, born October 21, 1978 in Olathe, Kansas, is an American actor who plays the role of Steve Newlin on the HBO original series True Blood. Making his debut on the episode "Mine" in the series' first season, Michael plays the role of a televangelist, and spokesman for the American Vampire League. Playing a recurring role through the series' first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh seasons, Michael plays the role of the son of anti-vampire advocate Theodore Newlin. Initially continuing his father's work after the murder of his entire family, Michael served as the secondary antagonist of the series' second season. A fanatic and firm believer that vampires were 'ungodly creatures' who knew no 'humanity', Michael seemed to relish the undead when he himself was turned into a vampire in the series' fifth season.

First presented as somewhat of a well-spoken man with a friendly disposition that, while a little odd at times, is altogether cheerful, as the series progresses, we see that most of this is a front for his hatred for what happened to him and his family. Shown to be unstable and unhinged beneath his amiable facade, as a vampire, this tendency seems even more pronounced. A believer in the Sanguinista movement, Michael meets an untimely demise in the Season 6 episode "Life Matters". Appearing as an apparition coming to haunt former wife Sarah Newlin, Steve is a starring actor who appears two more times, making his final appearance in the series' finale episode, "Thank You", at the end of the series' seventh, and final season.

Biography[]

McMillian was born in Olathe, Kansas and grew up in Kansas City and Olathe, attending Blue Valley Northwest High School. He has said that during his teen years, he was not a "full-on nerd [but was] reading comic books ... wasn't good in sports" and "got picked on a lot".

He is also known for his role as Henry Gibson on What I Like About You.

McMillian attended Interlochen Arts Academy and Carnegie Mellon University, where he was spotted and signed by an agent after a showcase audition.

McMillian has acted in films and television shows and has contributed voice work to a number of video games. He garnered attention for his starring role in the independent film Dorian Blues, playing a young man struggling with his family's reaction to his coming out. He played Greg in the original pilot episode of Luis, but gave up the series in favor of making his then-recurring What I Like About You character, Henry Gibson, a regular. McMillian also penned an episode during the third season of What I Like About You. He also played the role of Harper in the TNT's Saved. His most recent film role was in Imagine That.
