Niall Brigant is an upcoming character in the sixth season. He will be portrayed by new starring cast member Rutger Hauer. Niall is a fairy and the great-grandfather to Sookie and Jason.

He is a sinister, mysterious figure with a deep connection to the Stackhouse family.

History

Niall is truly ancient, having existed at least 3,500 years before the birth of Christ.

Powers and Abilities

Niall is ancient fae who is able to read the thoughts of any sentient creature that gives off brain waves. He is also able to generate and control large beams of light with their minds, using this ability to attack an enemy or topple large objects, and can morph the light beams into grenade-resembling round shapes that explode on impact his photokinesis can be used for a number of purposes other than offensive blasts such as the use of their light abilities to sense things about other fairies, and seemingly render beings unconscious and return a person's consciousness. He has lived much longer than most other creatures. Due to his age, his powers are more advanced than any other fae on the show.

Behind the scenes

• Interestingly, Rutger Hauer was first announced to be playing Macklyn; a "sinister, mysterious figure, with deep ties to Sookie and Jason". However, the casting call for episode 602 describes his character as Niall. It is not yet known if Macklyn and Niall are one-in-the-same, or if Hauer will portray both roles simultaneously.
