Pamela "Pam" Swynford De Beaufort (born 1871, turned 1905) is a vampire and the progeny of Eric Northman. Born in London, her human life ended in 1905 after being turned into a vampire by Eric Northman. After a century together, Pam is fiercely loyal to her maker, and despite her relative youth as a vampire acts as his second in command in his duties as vampire sheriff of Area 5, Louisiana. Along with Longshadow, and later Chow, she is one of Northman's business partners at Fangtasia. As of 2008, she is the beneficiary of Northman's will, should he ever meet the true death.

HistoryEdit

Human life (1871-1905) Edit

Pam was born in 1871, the daughter of a wealthy London businessman and his peerage wife who groomed her to be a respectable young lady of society which bored Pam to no end. She spent most of her 20's breaking engagements and young men's hearts. When she met Eric Northman in 1905, she was only too happy to take him up on his offer of immortality.

During her early years of being a vampire, Pam had a sexual relationship with Eric. However, this apparently ended after he released her. Afterwards, the pair formed an extremely close bond, comparable to that of a father and daughter. Pam appears to have stayed with Northman for most of her vampiric life, as she later references having been with him for "a hundred years". When Eric took up the mantle of vampire sheriff of Area 5 in Louisiana under Queen Sophie-Anne, Pam became his second in command in the area.

After the Great Revelation, they established a vampire bar, Fangtasia, along with another vampire named Longshadow.

Season 1Edit

We first see Pam at Fangtasia, a bar owned by her maker, Eric Northman and co-owned by herself. She is one of the people whom Sookie Stackhouse and Bill Compton question about two murdered women.

Later, Eric forces Sookie to help him uncover who has been stealing money from Fangtasia using her telepathic powers.

When she discovers that Longshadow is the thief, the enraged vampire attempts to kill her, however, Bill stakes Longshadow, breaking vampire law by killing a fellow vampire.

Shortly afterwards, Pam, Eric and Longshadow's replacement Chow collect Bill from Bon Temps to escort him to stand trial for his crime. Rather than imprisoning Bill for a hundred years, the Magister decides that Bill's punishment will be to replace the vampire he destroyed by creating a new vampire. Pam helps with Bill's punishment by burying him and his new progeny, a girl named Jessica, after he had drained her of blood.

Season 2Edit

We first see Pam in and around Fangtasia, mostly working on Eric Northman's hair. Later, Pam, Eric and Chow got to feed on Lafayette Reynolds whom they had been keeping prisoner in the basement. After Lafayette was freed, Pam visited him at Merlotte's in Bon Temps and ordered him to sell "V" for Eric.

When Eric traveled to Dallas, Texas, Pam did not accompany him.

Toward the end of Season 2 we saw Pam, again at Fangtasia, when Sam Merlotte went there to ask Eric for help and information. With Sam were Arlene Fowler's two children.

Season 3 Edit

"Pam: 'You can dish it out, but you sure can't take it, can you Magister?'
Eric: 'Let's see how this plays out Pam, you can always taunt later.'"

Jessica Hamby calls Pam seeking assistance, asking questions about how to dispose of a body.

Pam calls Eric to warn him about the Magister's ransacking of Fangtasia at the Queen's request, and is captured shortly afterward. ("9 Crimes")

Pam is bound and burned with silver by the Magister as punishment to Eric for selling V. Her life is threatened as a more severe punishment if he does not turn in the true responsible party. Eventually, Eric, Sophie-Anne, and Russell come to free Pam and have Russell and Sophie-Anne married by the Magister. The Magister refuses to release Pam and refuses to marry the couple, declaring his loyalty to the Authority. This angers Russell. Pam is freed and the Magister is tortured with the Magister's own silver tipped cane by Russell.

Pam taunts the Magister while he is being tortured. Russell eventually gets the Magister to declare him and Sophie-Anne husband and wife but the Magister tells them that the Authority will never recognize the marriage. After a while, Russell beheads the Magister, much to Sophie-Anne's, Eric's, and even Pam's surprise. ("Hitting the Ground")

Pam is the first to see Eric after murdering Talbot when he returns to Fangtasia. She is deeply unsettled by Eric's panic and lack of usual composure about his situation. Pam then sits in on Eric's interrogation by Nan Flanagan where she learns about Eric's past and the massacre of his family. Pam is put under house arrest along with Eric by the American Vampire League.

The next night, while still under house arrest, Pam confronts Eric about why he never told her about his family or Russell's part in the their deaths. Eric responds by telling her she didn't need to know and there isn't any reason for her to be carrying his pain. She then comments to Eric that "[They've] been through so much for so long, it can't end this quickly."

Eric then commands Pam that if he is to die she must make a new vampire. He tells her that "It's [her] time to be a Maker." Pam [breaks down into tears and kneels before Eric, crying into his chest. ("Everything Is Broken")

Pam then carries on getting angry at Eric in his preparations, snapping at him when he is making his will. She interrupts Eric and Sookie kissing with the famous line "Blah Blah Vampire Emergency Blah..." and then suggest he uses Sookie for Russell. Eric then confronts Pam when she starts crying noting that her lack of sentiment was his favorite quality of her.She says that he would have said and done anything to save Godric. This appears to set the ball rolling in Eric's mind about how he could possibly use Sookie as bait for Russell. ("I Smell a Rat")

When Bill comes storming into Fangtasia Pam is there, to stop him trying to get to Sookie and though Bill is nearly twice her age, she with the aid of liquid silver overpowers him, however; when Sookie and Yvetta chain Pam with silver, she tells them that they want to use Sookie as bait. Pam then calls Eric who is in the middle of talking to the dangerous Russell Edgington to tell him that Yvetta cleaned out the cash and Bill has left with Sookie. Pam is rescued by Ginger, who she then proceeds to feed on.

Just before Eric is about to sacrifice himself to kill Russell, Pam expresses her doubts about the plan they have come up with, but plays her part and persuades Russell to go outside with Eric.("Fresh Blood")

In the last episode Pam is targeted by Bill as she is privy to the knowledge that Sookie is part Fairy. Bill pretending to be Eric orders Reuben to kill Pam, she defeats Reuben and then proceeds to save Eric from his cement trap. She is last seen commenting about how she will never be able to get the cement out of her hair.("Evil is Going On")

Season 4Edit

Pam is requested by Nan Flanagan of the American Vampire League to make a public service announcement for television in their campaign to assure the American population that vampires pose no threat to humanity. However, Pam's deadpan delivery to the camera does not impress Nan so Eric takes over Pam's position. Later, Pam is working at Fangtasia when she notices that young vampire Jessica is tempted by a fangbanger named Matt, despite Jessica being in a committed relationship with Hoyt Fortenberry. Pam meets Jessica in the restroom and advises her to dump Hoyt and embrace her true animalistic nature as a vampire, making fun of Jessica's monogamy while she does so. Jessica gets annoyed with Pam, believing Pam to be just jealous about Jessica's deep love for Hoyt. Pam simply laughs this off. ("She's Not There")

Protesters outside of Fangtasia antagonize customers as Pam looks on with a wan smile. Jessica and Hoyt try to leave, but one of them insults Jess, calling her a whore, while another bears witness with a cell phone camera. Hoyt steps in to defend her honor and one of them picks a fight. Hoyt gets pummeled. Jessica moves to help him but Pam holds her back, admitting that technology has taken all the fun out of being a vampire.

At Fangtasia, Sookie pleads with Pam to try to convince Eric to relinquish ownership of her house. Pam can't believe Sookie thought she would side with her on the issue. Sookie tells Pam that she's waiting for Eric in his office. But before she turns her back on Sookie completely, Pam advises Sookie to take Eric up on his offer. "With what you are, faerie princess, you need to be somebody or you won't be at all. Eric is handsome, he's rich, and in his own way, he cares about you. He really does." Sookie still declines, saying that she will never be Eric Northman's puppet. "Shame for you, then," Pam coos. "He pulls good string." ("You Smell Like Dinner")

After Eric has had his memory wiped by the witches, Sookie phones her at the club while she is feeding on her new fangbanger. She answers the phone and instantly appears at Sookies home after hearing distress about Eric. She tells Sookie she must look after him as Bill is looking for any excuse or weakness to get rid of Eric. She also tries to threaten Sookie by rushing over to her at vampire speed but Eric protects Sookie. He pushes Pam across the floor, making her slide on a rug. Pam the suggests that he stay there while she tries to come up with a way to fix things.

Tara is naturally upset that only a couple of days in Bon Temps and already is attacked by a vamp. She does urge Lafayette to stay away from Fangtasia, but of course he goes and is attacked by Pam. Luckily Tara and Jesus make it just in time, but to protect themselves Tara has brought with her a gun with wooden bullets and points it at Pam, she compromises and say "You have 24 hours to bring her to me, or I'll eat, f**k and kill each and every single one of you." ("If You Love Me, Why Am I Dyin'?")

Bill visits Pam at Fangtasia. He is questioning the whereabouts of Eric, but Pam tells him she knows nothing. Marnie has a dream about a Spanish witch being burnt at the stake. She wakes tormented, her eyes aflame as before. Jesus, Lafayette and Tara are still begging her to reverse the memory loss spell she cast on Eric or they'll have to deal with Pam and other Vampires. She claims she has tried, but had no luck. Frustrated that they cannot find the proper incantation, a book mysteriously flies off a shelf and lands on the shop floor. Marnie picks up the book and realizes it contains a spell that should reverse the curse.

With the spell book in hand, Marnie attempts to reverse the spell. Outdoors in a circle, Marnie, Pam, Lafayette and Tara stand. Marnie begins to chant, while Pam continues to complain and threaten about her powers and magic spells not working and taking too long. Suddenly, Marnie drops her spell book and gets a strange look on her face. She starts chanting again in Spanish. Pam's facial skin starts to change in a decaying format and begins to burn. She lifts her hand and touches her cheek, a chunk of skin coming off. She is starting to look like a corpse, she screams and leaves in vampire speed. Marnie, her eyes filled with the fire spirit, smiles again, then faints dead away. ("I'm Alive and on Fire")

Pam seeks help from Bill on reversing Marnie's spell, as the Vampire Healing power isn't able to overcome it. They capture Marnie who, while in a cell and glamored by Bill, claims she cannot reverse the spell she cast on Pam's face. Later, Pam goes to a meeting with Bill and the four remaining Louisiana Sheriffs. She accidentally tells the room that Eric had his memory erased, something she shouldn't know if she hasn't seen him since he disappeared. Bill grabs Pam and insists she tells him where Eric is. Pam admits that Eric is at Sookie's, then says an apology aloud toward Eric. ("Me and the Devil")

Eric see's Pam in the same cell King Bill has locked them in. He asks why her face is covered, and she reveals her rotting face. She tries to make Eric realize who he truly is, but he says he is not that vampire anymore. Later, Eric get's Pam released from the cell. She surprises Tara and Naomi in the parking lot at Merlottes. She is looking for revenge. ("I Wish I Was the Moon")

The fight between Pam, Tara and Naomi is cut short when Bon Temps locals begin to film the fight, and due to the new vampire laws set by the AVL , Pam has no choice but to let Tara and Naomi go, knowing if a vampire is caught on film killing a human then that vampire will be punished with the true death. However, before she flees Merlottes parking lot Pam vows revenge on Tara for her part in the curse.

Pam returns to Fangtasia, where she has employed Dr. Ludwig to help cure her of her decomposing state. The doctor makes her undergo a painful body peal, removing nearly all of her skin and leaving only the muscles underneath. However, Dr. Ludwig explains there is a catch to this treatment: as she is not a Witch, the doctor cannot break the curse that is causing Pam to decompose. However, she can hide the decomposition by removing the dying skin and with injections of a special drug that will aid in the healing process. This will restore Pam's former appearance, but she will have to give herself four injections of the drug six times a day for the rest of her immortal existence.

A few hours after her treatment Pam is made aware of Antonia's plan to make all vampires meet the sun, and she moves her baby pink coffin to Fangtasia's basement. By this time she has regrown several layers of skin, but still retains a corpse-like appearance. She has Ginger bind her with a sheet of silver chain-mail, and instructs Ginger to hold her in place should she try and meet the sun under the influence of Antonia's spell. That morning, Antonia's spell is cast, and Pam, along with every other vampire in the area, attempts to immolate herself in the sunlight. However, the silver holds with Ginger's help, and Pam survives. ("Cold Grey Light of Dawn") Pam were present at the graveyard with Bill Eric and Sookie but also his human commandos as well as a number of vampires Antonia reacts to this by chanting a spell that causes immense masses of fog to fill the graveyard, which in turn starts the battle. During the fight, Pam catches Tara and is about to kill her when Bill comes and tells Pam he commands her not to touch Tara now and forever. ("Spellbound")

Pam shows up and asks Eric how did they get Antonia to break the curse and had her break, he says she didn’t, Sookie did. He tells her they will talk about that later. Bill is planning on taking Antonia out and Pam, Eric, Bill and Jessica arrive armed at the Moon Goddess Emporium to take out the witches. ("Burning Down the House")

Pam, Eric, Bill and Jessica are getting ready to blow up Moon Goddess Emporium, but they are interrupted by Jason who explains that Sookie is inside and he shows them the protection spell around the Emporium. Suddenly, Kirsch and Duprez come out of seemingly nowhere, attacking the vampires. When Bill has somehow staked Duprez, Pam pulls Kirsch's "vintage Cartier" necklace from her neck just before Bill kills her. Marnie comes out and tries to co-operate with the vampires by trading Sookie if both Bill and Eric kill themselves. They agree, Pam gets angry and says "No fucking way im watching you die for this bitch" Pam then grabs the bazzuca and fires a rocket to stop them. The shield stops the rocket, which explodes toward those outside the shield. None of the vampires get seriously hurt, but the blast causes Jason to get seriously burned and blinded but he is given vampire blood and heal fast. Furious, Eric berates Pam for attacking Marnie with Sookie standing there, as Sookie could have been killed by the blast as well. Marnie casts a spell which causes the vampires to walk towards the shield, which can kill them. The curse is Broken when Sookie use her powers. Pam tries to apologize to Eric, saying she knew the rocket wouldn't penetrate the shield. Eric, still pissed, tells Pam to leave before he kills her. Shattered, Pam dashes away. ("Soul of Fire")

PersonalityEdit

Pam is extremely loyal toward her maker, Eric, and acts as his second in command despite her relative youth as a vampire. She is often blunt when explaining things or dealing with most people--vampire or not. She has a very morbid sense of humor, with a sweet yet highly lethal charm. She can also be very cold and uncaring when dealing with people and seems apathetic to others concerns.

Eric has described her as lazy and disobedient, though she is efficient enough to finish all of her required work. Pam strongly dislikes children and appears to be much more sexually interested in women than men (with Eric being the exception), although she doesn't easily make friends with either sex. Pam believes that vampires are superior to their human counterparts.

Powers & abilities Edit

Pam has the common powers and weaknesses of a vampire such as superhuman strength, speed and healing. She has a natural affinity for glamouring, and has been shown using the ability on several occasions. Due to her age, she is much stronger and faster than younger vampires such as Jessica and Liam but far weaker than her superiors such as Bill and Eric. However, she has shown herself capable of overpowering her elder, Bill, using a combination of liquid silver and her own enhanced vampire speed and strength to weaken him. Her weaknesses include a stake to the heart, silver and fire. Sunlight will slowly kill a vampire of her age

• Pam is portrayed by American actress Kristin Bauer van Straten who was a recurring cast member for the first two seasons, before being upgraded to series regular as of the third season.
• Kristin has a large floral tattoo on her upper arm and shoulder. Costume and makeup cover up her tattoo from being seen.
