SomChai is a minor character on the HBO original series True Blood. Played by Thai-American actress Danielle Yu, SomChai makes her debut on the episode "F**k the Pain Away" in the series' sixth season. Similar to a fangbanger, she is a candidate willing to give blood in return for vampire cooperation while they participate in therapy in Burrell's Camp. She appears once more, in the Season 6 episode "Life Matters".

Season 6[]

"F**k the Pain Away"[]

After she was arrested by the LAVTF, Pam Swynford De Beaufort is in the camp created by Truman Burrell. She is brought to a room that looks like a therapists office with a human sitting across her. He tells to sit down. She does not comply and at first asks to be transferred to the room where they have sex. The doctor tells her that is for level three inmates only and she is level one. He tells Pam that if she complies and answers the questions he asks honestly, she can feed on a living human. When she does not she will be given watered down Tru Blood. Pam chooses a woman to feed her. The doctor proposes SomChai and begins asking her questions about what value Pam places on life. She answers rudely but honestly and is allowed to feed on SomChai. After several honest answers, the doctor then permits Pam to feed on SomChai again who is looking very ill due to the number of times Pam has been allowed to feed on her in such a short space of time. Pam refuses to feed and says "it looks like you and me are through SomChai". SomChai looks extremely relieved and leaves. ("F**k the Pain Away")

"Life Matters"[]

When Eric Northman storms the camp, he frees Ginger from her prison chamber. SomChai is among the many human prisoners who was presumably forced to feed the hungry vampires as punishment for being a fangbanger or vampire sympathizer. She is not seen afterward, but it is unlikely that she was killed as she did not actively take part in the torture of the vampires.  ("Life Matters")

Trivia[]

  • Strangely, Somchai is actually a male name in Thai.
