"Oh yeah, baby, you survive. You always do. But goddamn do you leave a trail of bodies behind. You know what? You the fucking angel of death!"
―Lafayette to Sookie[src]

Sookie Stackhouse is a major character in the first, second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth seasons of True Blood. Sookie is the most prominent main character on the show and is played by Academy Award-winning Canadian Kiwi actress, Anna Paquin and debuts in "Strange Love". She has won a Golden Globe for the role. She's from Bon Temps, Louisiana. She has the power to hear the thoughts of others. She has recently found out she is the faerie princess of the Stackhouse tribe.

Sookie also appears in the The Sookie Stackhouse Novels as the titular character and narrator of the stories. She is also the current girlfriend of Alcide Herveaux, her close friend and longtime admirer.

Physical appearance

In the television series, Canadian-born New Zealand actress Anna Paquin portrays Sookie. In order to portray a Sookie closer to the books, Dobrev had to undergo a number of cosmetic changes. Dobrev, a natural brunette with fair skin, had to dye her hair blonde for the role so that her hair looked like it would be naturally blonde. Dobrev also has to use tanning lotion regularly on her skin so that she has Sookie's sunkissed skin tone. Dobrev still differs physically from the book Sookie as she has brown eyes instead of blue and is noticeably slimmer than her book counterpart.

The actress has stated that she wears "a good bra" when portraying Sookie so that she can live up to the book counterpart's famously large bosom. Anna is also required to speak in the Southern Louisiana dialect when portraying Sookie.

Personality

As a telepath, Sookie must constantly cope with hearing people's thoughts. She can hear their darkest secrets—without wanting to—and so is awkward around people. Sookie is polite and caring, always willing to help someone in need. Although Sookie is kind, she never hesitates to stand up for herself and her beliefs, even when face-to-face with an angry vampire or her best friend. Sookie is loyal to her friends, but when a friend does not return that loyalty she is deeply hurt. Some of Sookie's negatives are her naivete and gullibility; this is partly due to her quiet, sheltered life in a small town and her trusting disposition. She can be quite blunt and sarcastic. Sookie has a natural (and deadly) appreciation and curiosity of the supernatural world and all the creatures in it, primarily because she cannot hear their thoughts and feels at peace with them. Also, they value her telepathic abilities and respect her, whereas humans treat her like a simpleton.

Others think of Sookie as a nice, innocent person who needs to be protected, but she is perfectly capable of taking care of herself. Her ability to know what people are thinking  has occasionally made her feel like an outcast, but she does her best to deal with it. No one is more important to her than her family, though she also likes her independence.

Powers and abilities

Powers of Fairies and vampires: Faerie-vampires possess all the powers of faeries and the vampires, such as telepathy, photokinesis, dimensional manipulation/creation superhuman speed, superhuman strength, heightented senses, accelerated healing, flight and glamouring. ("At Last") As with normal vampires and fairies, faerie-vampires become more powerful as they age, in terms of both their fae and vampiric abilities. Silver & Invitation Immunity: Thanks to their heritage faerie, Faerie-Vampires possess the ability to enter the homes of human's without an invitation and are not affected by silver, making them far more powerful than either vampire or faerie. ("At Last") Faerie-vampire Blood Abilities

V Abilities: The blood of a faerie-vampire also combines the powers of both species. It can be used as V but also enables the Faerie-vampire to daywalk indefinitely. ("At Last") In addition, drinking the blood of a vampire-Faerie seems to increase or somewhat replenish the powers of a halfling, whose powers are normally finite. ("In the Evening") Daywalking Abilities: Consumption of faerie-vampire blood by a standard vampire grants them daywalking indefinitely. ("In the Evening") Not only this, but when regular vampires feed from another regular vampire that has already consumed some amount of faerie-vampire blood, then they too acquire the daywalking ability, thereby indicating that its effects have a contagious nature ("Life Matters"). However, if the faerie-vampire meets the true death, then any vampire who gained the ablity to daywalk through that faerie-vampire's blood, loses this ablity. ("Radioactive") Healing power: The blood of a faerie-vampire is capable of healing both vampires and humans alike; it can heal humans because of the vampiric nature of the blood and it can heal vampires because of its part-fae nature. Its ability to heal vampires was confirmed when James saved a dying Bill Compton with some of Warlow's blood which he received from Bill himself, and when Warlow mentioned to Sookie that once she was turned they would both heal each other. Perpetual Nourishment: Based on Warlow's conversations with Sookie, it can be presumed that 2 faerie-vampires can indefinitely sustain each other by feeding off each other's blood, something ordinary vampires themselves are incapable of as normal vampire blood doesn't heal vampires.
